Where are you from?

"Where did you come from?" と "Where are you from?" の違い....  大体 "Where are you from?" の方が良いでしょう。 "Where did you come from?" ですと、1) 昔の時代の言い方の感じ? エンジンの無い風で動く船で何週間かけて, 遠い遠い国に行って 「丸々国から遣って来ました!」の感じ?  2) あまりにも変わってる人に 「いったい、どこの誰ですか?!  あなたは...」の感じ? それじゃ、旅中で他人と会話を始まると「どこの人ですか?」を聞きと以下のような会話は一つの例でござる。 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A: So... where are you from? B: Japan. A: What part of Japan? B: Tokyo. A: Ah, Tokyo!  Such a dynamic city! B: Have you been to Tokyo? A: Only once. B: When did you go? A: Five years ago. B: Before the pandemic.... ところで"dynamic"は躍動的の意味です。 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

好きな食べ物は?

「好きな食べ物は?」の聞き方は、大体 "What kind of food do you like?"の感じ? ただし、普段これを聞くと理由がある時 - 近い将来で一緒に食べる場合が多い (当たり前) 。 一緒に働いてる人とか、気に入ってるデートしたい人とか。 以下の会話は一つの例です。 A: Would you like to go out for dinner on Friday? B: Um... okay.... A: What kind of food do you like? B: I like most kinds of food... A: How about Italian? B: Yeah, that sounds good! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

弁当はBentoです

単語試験になると一つの単語は別言語の一つの単語にするけれども、実際は、そうでもない。 In vocabulary tests, generally one word is translated into one word of a different language, but this is often not the case in the real world.  さて! 弁当! 弁当は"lunchbox"と思ってる人がいるけれども、それは間違いです! 弁当は"bento"です! 例として、以下のニュース記事からのテキストを見ましょう:  "Bento" (in Japanese) is often incorrectly translated as "lunchbox".  Basically "bento" (in Japanese) is "bento" in English, although (as the following examples taken from actual news articles show) it's usually used in combination with other words, such as "bento box", "bento boxed lunch" etc: "eat bento boxed meals" "served in bento boxes" "to sell bento meals" "handmade bento box vending machine" "including bento boxed meals" "The bento boxes pop out frozen" "a bento boxed meal" "and bento boxes of traditional regional foods" "bento boxed lunches...
